Forms of Endurance and Change

This exhibition traces some of the main developments in Robert Newell’s long-term engagement with painting and drawing landscape. His work has passed through certain distinct phases in relation to places, themes and formal concerns: the North Sea coast, destroyed urban environments, and now the landscapes of Wales mainly, but also of Cumbria. His ultimate concerns now centre on the rhythmic organisation of detail and mass produced in landscapes by the interlay of physical forces over time. .
